Objective

The Texas Venture Labs Investment Competition (TVLIC) is designed to mimic the real-world process of raising venture capital, giving graduate student entrepreneurs the chance to pitch new ventures and receive feedback from experienced investors and entrepreneurs.

Description

Overview
The Texas Venture Labs Investment Competition (TVLIC) simulates the real-world process of raising venture capital. Hosted each semester by the Brumley Institute for Graduate Entrepreneurship at the McCombs School of Business, University of Texas at Austin, TVLIC dates back to 1984 and has grown into a competition open to graduate students across the entire University of Texas System.

Eligibility
- Open to any degree-seeking University of Texas System graduate student
- Students from any graduate program may participate if eligibility requirements are met
- Ventures must be operating companies (going concerns) in seed, startup, or early growth stages

Format
- Application/quarterfinal round narrows the pool to about 30 competing student teams
- Semifinal pitch rounds held in the morning
- Top teams advance to Finals in the afternoon, followed by an Awards Ceremony
- Includes the Experian Legacy Leader Pitch Awards, a 2-minute no-slides pitch format

Notable
- Considered one of the oldest inter-business school new-venture competitions in the world
- Alumni ventures include uShip, Ordoro, BeatBox Beverages, Phurnace Software, and Qcue
