Cornell Corning Emerging Markets Case Competition
Objective
The competition challenges graduate and undergraduate student teams to identify and answer real-world questions that businesses and managers face in Emerging Markets, developing innovative, win-win solutions for companies navigating this evolving landscape.
Description
Overview
The Corning Case Competition is a flagship event of the Cañizares Center for Emerging Markets (formerly the Emerging Markets Institute) at Cornell's SC Johnson College of Business, held as part of the Annual Conference. The 2026 edition marks 10 years of the competition.
Who can participate
- Teams from MBA, other master's, and undergraduate programs worldwide
- Teams of 4-5 students
- Each team must have a faculty advisor as primary point of contact
Format
- Round 1: A confidential case is distributed by email; teams have seven days to analyze it and submit a written/recorded solution. Teams may not contact the company featured in the case.
- Round 2 (Final): Selected finalist teams present their analysis and recommendations in person to a panel of judges, with 12 minutes for presentation plus approximately five minutes for Q&A. At least two team members must attend in person.
- Winners are announced at the final and present during the Annual Conference in New York City.
Notable details
- No registration fee
- Travel compensation available for finalists upon request
- Judges include Cornell faculty, Center for Emerging Markets Fellow alumni, board members, and faculty from finalist schools
