Beyond H-1B: Exploring Alternative Paths to Working in the U.S. as an International Student
Feb

18:00 CET
30 minutes
With recent changes and growing uncertainty around the H-1B, many international students feel they have limited control over their future in the U.S. In this session, an international STEM graduate shares her real journey-from missed H-1B lotteries and relocating outside the U.S., to eventually securing long-term U.S. work authorization through an alternative visa pathway.
This is not a "shortcut" story. Instead, it's an honest discussion about what other options may exist, the type of profiles they apply to, and how international students can think more strategically-early-about career choices, visa planning, and long-term mobility.
This session is not legal advice and not a guarantee that a specific visa pathway will apply to everyone. The goal is to increase awareness of alternative options and help students think more strategically about long-term career and immigration planning.

About the speaker
Our speaker is an international STEM graduate with a background in advanced engineering, research, and industry roles across India, the U.S., and Canada. After beginning her career in India, she pursued a Master's degree in the U.S. and later faced repeated uncertainty navigating the H-1B system.
Following an unexpected relocation outside the U.S., she took a more intentional and long-term approach to career and immigration planning, ultimately securing U.S. work authorization through an alternative visa pathway. She joins this session to share her journey and the broader lessons international students can apply when thinking beyond lottery-based outcomes.
