Leading Futures
March 01, 2019

Leading Futures is an Innovation Conference and Case Competition run by students from the ESADE MBA. The main event takes place at ESADE’s campus in Barcelona, and explores the theme of disruptive innovation through the lens of a given industry… this year it was Smart Cities. Leading Futures 2019 was sponsored by Technology and Digital Transformation Consultancy: Minsait; and leading MBA school: ESADE University, and was also supported by various other partner companies. The event began on February 28th, where the six finalist case competitor teams, from Cranfield University; IE Business School; HEC Paris; and ESADE Business School, came to partake in a day of learning and training with partner companies. Most notable partners were Innovation Consultancy Insitum, who gave our finalists a Business Model Workshop, and helped them think about their own venture through the perspective of the business model canvas; and also VC and Accelerator InnoEnergy, who put our finalists through their paces by putting their business model and pitch through a “stress test” that delivered invaluable advice to our teams before the big day.

Leading Futures is an annual, student-led, case competition and conference held at the ESADE campus in Barcelona. The 2017 event will take place on November 23-24. Leading Futures is composed of two separate events: the case competition and the conference.

The case competition participants will be asked to create a brand-new FinTech venture for Banco Sabadell's innovation hub, InnoCells.
InnoCells was founded in 2016 as Banco Sabadell's hub of new digital businesses. InnoCells' innovation model is flexible and agile, while their mandate is to launch new digital businesses outside the bank. InnoCells acts a business builder, creating and fostering new digital ventures. InnoCells' aim is to disrupt the banking industry from within. Can it be done and are you up to the challenge?

While many will apply only 6 teams will be invited to come to Barcelona to attend a 5 hour marathon of workshops with Google, Business Models Inc and InnoCells to fine tune their new venture idea. The next day, they will pitch their final solutions in front of a panel of industry experts, during the Leading Futures conference.

The conference is open to all MBA students curious about innovation and venture building. The day event will consist of workshops, keynotes, panel discussions and networking opportunities. With a focus on "how to build digital ventures," conference goers will have the opportunity to attend workshops with Google, Business Models Inc, and InnoCells, on Design Thinking and Business Model Design, as well as hear established FinTech entrepreneurs talk about their experience. The day will finish with a networking event, during which students will have a chance to interact with the event partners and companies will get to meet new talent.

If you're an aspiring entrepreneur, if you want to build up your innovation skills, or if you're interested in how FinTech is disrupting traditional banking, this event is for you.

How does it work?

The Leading Futures Competition is a venture building competition sponsored by Banco Sabadell's innovation hub, InnoCells.

To participate, students have to register as a team (3-5 members per team) and submit a pitch deck, presenting a new digital venture for InnoCells.

Venture builders from InnoCells will choose 6 finalist teams. The finalist teams will be invited to an afternoon of workshops on Nov 23rd, where they will be able to fine tune their pitch. They will then pitch during the Leading Futures Conference on Nov 24th, in front of a panel of judges, including members of InnoCells, Business Models Inc and ESADE faculty.

The winners will be announced at the end of the conference. Prize money totaling €2500 will be shared between 1st and 2nd place.

Teams that are not selected for the final stage of the competition can purchase tickets separately to the Leading Futures Conference on Nov 24th.
